hey guys, I just installed a new msd hvc 2 coil on my car because of another coil arcing. The car runs fine. just for fun , though , we shut all the lights off in the garage to check the rest of the ignition wires. We did see flashing , not arcing , at the spark plug boots. i did put dielectric grease on the terminals. I have seen this before but just wondering what it is and if it is normal? It's got an msd 7al2 and both heads are grounded.Thanks.

IMO if it is flashing around a boot then i would think the boots bad if it is secured on sparkplug properly

I agree You need new wires!!!!!!!!! You should see Nothing if you shout the lights off...You are producing a ton of resistance that will cause the ignition
to fail sooner or later!!!!!!!!Good luck :D

Moroso ultra 40's if you get another set .. I'd be calling MSD and asking why its doing it. I agree with all the above needs new plug wires .

Make sure you don't have too much resistance somewhere else. Cap and rotor, and rotor phasing need to be good. Also tighten up the plug gap, .030 should be good. When going to the Digital 7 and HVC II in my new car I fried the center conductor on my HEI distributor, I had to get a low resistance one that MSD sells.

I called MSD today and they said it was normal. I borrowed some moroso 40 wires and still the same. Changed from autolites to ngk and cleaned up grounds on both heads , block and frame new rotor and cap and still the same. I'm not going to pull my hair out , but just trying to figure out what is causing this. BTW the plugs are gapped at 35. Thanks for the replies.

If it's flashing it's leaking, bud.need to figure out how to keep that energy from escaping. You want that electricity arcing in your cylinders, not under your hood :D
