How many of you would use a eagle stroker kit for a big block chevy? Scott out of new york sells the stroker kit for $1,895.00 and was wondering if any of you wouldn't run this kit and why not? I'm going out of town tomorrow so I need to make a choice today. Thanks,Bill

Get the good rod bolts L-19's and your good to go. Seen them in 1500hp motors. I have a eagle setup in my 582 and yet to have a failure with eagle (knock on wood).

Thanks for the info.. I was on EAGLES web-site and they sell their own stroker kit for more than SCOTT.S out of new york does?

Question, did you buy it already balanced or did you get it done?

I have had two different with motors (a 469 & a 540) with 4340 Eagle rods and crank with no problems. I did the same thing that Hammer suggested to you and upgraded to the L-19 rod bolts.

Another question? What do you think the hp difference would be between a 10.5.1 (540) compared to say a 13.1-14.1(540)?? Money is tight so I only want to do this once! Thanks,Bill

I've purchased all mine balanced, my motor guys been happy with that part from them. To answer your compression question it depends what you want to do with it, race only no doubt 13:1 would be what I get there will be a good sizeable increase in HP over the 10:1 stuff.

I don't know if you are driving this on the street or not, but you can always fill the block with filler. My 540 is 877 hp and my block is Gen IV Bowtie block. I run my engine 8000-8100 rpm. I don't know if my Bowtie block is any different from your and maybe someone can help out here.

I may be wrong here but I bieleve the bowtie block is the one you would want and they could be correct.
Again I may be wrong I dont deal with gm blocks.

10;5 if it is mostly street. 13 and over if it is mostly for racing. Forget the power difference. DEcide what you want to use it for.
the 502 production block is factory rated for 750 hp max. I know of a few guys doing over 800 with them. It is the weakest factroy GM BB Block ever built. Will still make a great street engine though.
I prefer the ARP 2000 bolt upgrqade to the L-19. Go to ARP site and check out the different alloys and positives and negatives of each and make up your own mind.
Shafiriff does a good balance job.
I suggest to inquire about their pump gas cams for your type of engine if you do this for street.

I ran an eagle crank, gm 502 block, grp aluminum rods, JE 13.8 -1 pistons, comp roller, world prod aluminum heads, sniper intake on a 548. It made 868 @ 7400 and no problems. It was a bad little motor and wish i hadn't sold it. But a dart block would be better for sure.

My plan of action has already begun.. Ordered the stroker kit with the L-19 bolt upgrade. Going to fill the block up to the freeze-out plugs. A set of AFR 345's and keep my weenie cam in it for now. Will see how she does. Almost forgot compression will be around 12.8. Thanks for all the in-put.Bill

I personally would go with Scat. We have dealt with Eagle alot and we have returned to much. Scat has a better quality control/inspection dept. Just my opinion though. Scat has been doing very good for us, other than the time to get an assembly....mainly the 408 stroker kits.
