View Full Version : burn out with 400 trans
I have 67 Nova with a 612 with a built 400 using Mt 31x16.5 I was told not to start my burn out in 1st gear and then shifting into 2nd that it would brake the trans. So i do the burn out staying in second. Whats the proper way. Thanks Hal

When I had my 40 equiped car I started in 2nd and shift to 3rd then go to neutral coming off the gas out of the burnout.I was taught this way and never had an issue.

Doesn't matter.Whatever suits you or you feel more comfortable with.I do mine in all 3 gears, just so that I'm working the shifter the same everytime.Rev patt Q-stick.Had a hard time getting used to that shifter,so I try to keep things consistent. But it won't hurt your tranny to shift from 1st to 2nd under any conditions, especially when there's no real load against it.JMO

shifting in the burnout will damage the trans sooner or later. the support bairing in the back will give up on you mine did. my trans guy told me to put it in high gear to do the burnout your tires are wet anyway. havent had any problems since and have no problem doing the burnout in high gear
