Very nice, my dad has an '80 Monza on an Alston chassis. He's built it in about '85 or '86. We always get the "Why did you build a Mazda?" or "why didn't you build an American made car?"
Idiots.

Thanks! I had a 78 pro street monza back 20 years ago and really wanted to find another one to get back into it. Yea everyone says "what's a monza"? I just like the way the they look with some big fat tires and sitting low to the ground. This is the one I had then.

Well I think I am getting the hang of it a little bit now. It's a little faster than anything I ever had. Ran a 5.57 1/8th mile at 125 mph and a 8.78 1/4 mile at 149 mph last week with a little left to get. It gets up against the rev limiter at 7500 about 100 feet before the line. I have been leaving on the foot brake instead of the trans brake to get used to the car and have had some 1.27 60 foot times. I have bumped the timing down to 32 to soften it up a little on the launch also. Going back to the track in a couple of weeks and going to bump the timing back to 34 and leave an the trans brake and see what it'll do. Think I'll use fhe shoot on that pass. Never used one before and a little concerned about it. It's a stroud and is suppose to be one of the softer ones on the chasis so I guess I'll find out.

Yeah, what hammertime said. You gotta pull it while you're still under power or it won't open. Ask me how I know LOL. I don't really need mine but the rules require it. Mine is a stroud too and the hit is very mild but you can feel it when it opens. I've pulled mine on the 1/4 at just a little over 150. My car et's and mph's close to what your's is. Funny thing is my boy asked me to pull the 'chute last night at the track. I forgot the 1st 2 time runs but remembered on the last one. He said he thought I forgot again untill he saw the pilot popping out. The coolness of it is worth the trouble repacking. 8) 8)

Thanks for the advice. I will pull it next time out which will be in about three weeks. Yea the packing is a little tough when you don't do it very often. My 10 year old twin girls will get a big kick out of it.

My 10 year old twin girls will get a big kick out of it.

I remember watching Bob Glidden on TV and I called my then 5 or 6 year old daughter over to cheer for him. As soon as the cars crossed the line and pulled the 'chutes that was all she could see. I saw her face light up and knew what was coming. She had watched me race some and wanted to know why I didn't have one on my car. I told her I would put one on it. That never happened to the old car but this one was gonna have one whether it needed or not. She's 17 now, don't blink buddy. In what will seem like minutes those girls will be teenagers.

I love Monzas, have had 2 myself. Your car has a nice stance for a Monza, to many times people have the rear to high, (old school cars).

Thanks doorracer. I liked the way the car was low to the ground when I saw the add on RJ. The guy I got it from actually raised it up a little. I think when I do paint it I will paint it blue like gearheads car. I love that color and it looks awsome on his probe. I may put some silver striping.
