According to Webster:
ENGINE; Any machine or device that transforms energy into work.
MOTOR; A machine or device that transforms the energy of water, steam, electricity, chemical, etc. into mechanical energy.- engine
the two are interchangable.

I've always used both terms but I've been told engines run on gas, motors are electrical.
