is there a way to stick weld chromoly? i went to look ata a car and the guy tells me it is chromoly but i just do not like the way the welds look. can someone send me some pics to show me what the welds are supposed to look like and not look like

you probably could weld it with an arc welder (stick) if you realy wanted to but it would be very untidy,very difficult to weld positionally.trust your instincts if it does'nt look right it probably is'nt. :shock:

Do NOT stick weld moly, it is not legal. It should look like fish scales if done right. Here is a link for moly welding info.

I believe you can only Tig weld moly legally. Probably not safe using any other method.

Right on, it's not legal to stick,mig, or braze moly tubing, by any of the racing sanctioning body's NHRA or IHRA. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it's not legal. Heck i even tig welded a 4" long crack in a 400 block with nirod and it's still in service today. It should have been taken apart and put in a furnace and welded with cast iron rod.
