I have a std bore 454 in a 3650lbs Chevelle it ran 6.93 (1/8). I have it for sale on RJ and everyone that has called about it says that there is no way it ran 6.90's in a heavy car. It has square port closed chamber heads, flat top pistons, hyd 305-305 575-575 cam, single plane intake and a 750 gas carb. Is this to far out of range for this type engine, or is it just a good combination???????????????

Depends on the converter and gear I suppose....and traction. A little hard to believe for me but who am I... :)

It's possible, but not probable. As he said, it kind of depends on the converter and gear.
If you have it geared for 1/8th mile, I'd say that would be more probable than it being able to run high 10s in the qtr.
If the heads are stock and it's a 10:1 compression motor, I'd have to say you're full of something stinky.

The heads have been ported and have 2.25-1.88 valves. It has a 5.57 gear and a 4000 stall converter shifting at 6200. It is a basic good street engine and I ran it 12 passes and it went 7.09 first pass foot break and 6.95 2nd pass leaving at 3200. I pulled the 2 step chip out and left on the converter and it went 6.93 4 passes in a row!!!!!!!

What are the rpm's at the finish line? How tall is the tire?

if you say it, then you ran it :!: ..no use in asking do we believe it cause that doesn't really matter..
i had a VW that ran 6.0's in the 1/8 no NOS ETC... (true)
also i am not trying to be sarcastic....My Vette will roll out in the next few weeks..no matter what it runs I WILL NOT SEEK approval as long as i know what it runs

6.93 is possibly a 10.9XXX, probably an 11.00 something. Why is that so hard to believe? It runs pretty good. The thing that would make me say it runs good for what it is is the hydraulic cam. The bore size wouldn;t be a thing that would make me raise an eyebrow. Consider a 406, thats a .030 over 400, at 4.155 bore. Lots of 406's will run 10.90's easy. Your bore is 4.25, thats .100 more than a 406, plus, its 48 cubic inches bigger. So, the bore size wouldn;t be a big deal. Plus, the big block, the valves are canted, and open away from the cylinders, un-shrouding them better.

I know what it ran, but everyone accept for who watched run that wants to buy it says no way without NOS did it run 6.93, well it did and a engine that runs 6.90's in a heavy car is surely worth 2350.00

I would price it for $4,500...when they start with the doubting..then tell them ok....since you do not believe me..i will knock off $600 and you can pick it up for $3,900...if it doesn't run what i say it does..i will knock off another $300......you still clear $3600

I had similar set up in my 73 nova except mine was bored over .060.
305 magnum hydralic cam, 750 double pumper, team g, flat tops.
Ran 7.00's w/ 1.54 short times all day long I knew there was more there but I was short shifting @ 5200 rpm to make the motor last, 3 speed T400, 488 rear cogs, and 9 inch 4500 converter.
Sounds like you have a 2 speed with that much gear.
Whats the ad number? Might be interested.

1110068 is the ad #, I may put this thing back in the car and take it to the track, may sell better if people can hear it run and see it run those #'s

rpm was 6400 at the finish line, but I have a 10.5x33W witch is a tall tire.

mine is a 32x 14 with a 5.14 gear but I never paid any attention to the finish line rpm was thinking of adding some gear.
