You laugh .. but more tracks are going to this style schedule
Most tracks make more money on street car nights then any other night.
The problem at most tracks is the bitching crying bracket racers that cant turn a win light on to save there ass and blame it on the track !!
80% of the guys bitching about bristol arent doing anything about trying to get it back to one of the best tracks in the country !!

Well believe it or not like most high end race tracks they really dont make enough money to keep a bracket program going, fact is its probabloy cost them money to host a weekly bracket only event, but most still do for the mere fact they want to keep the sport alive, sadly bristol doesnt feel that way.
The nearest big name track to me is Memphis Motorsports Park and they have been struggling to keep their bracket program going, they've cut the schedule way back but they still do it. It cost them more just to turn on the lights and pay the staff than they will ever make in tech cards and buy backs, If you go to a saturday night bracket program the stands are almost empty, only filled with the few patrons that come with the racers and maybe a diehard race fan or two.
Now take a thursday night test and tune session and the stands are packed, the staging lanes are 200 cars deep and the consessions are out of nachos.
Tracks are a business bottom line and if they cant make money then the fact is they will have to cut out things like our beloved bracket program.

thats what brandon cross said when i talked to him wasn't making money from bracket racing, i live 15 miles from the track race at the track and if you go to street fights as they call it, you might see 10-20 people in the stands, they charge $10.00 to race, so where is the money???????????

The $10.00 or so to race is where the money is. Most street race nights involve no payout. Most bracket purses are more than they take in. So it's pay out or keep it all...

Everybody wants to get in to race for free, then take home a big purse for coming in third.Tracks are high dollar operations and the employees have to make money, too.Live and let live. You got to pay to play

Hello Fellows, One of the tracks near me (u.s. 41 in morocco, ind) started friday street nights a couple of years back. They usually schedule it for 1 Friday per month and the stands would be packed, but other than the daily drivers and bikes going round-n-round, there's a bunch of standing around, arguements, and phonies pretending to want to gamble. I'm from chicago, and there's a gazillion street racers, so I'm sure that's t the event the track makes their most money. Most of the serious bracket racers around here compete at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Il or Great Lakes dragway ('Da Grove) in Union Grove, Wis.

Hey Charles,
There was an annuel dinner last week in Memphis, and the track manager was there, he made a little speech, and stated that Memphis will run as always, and even have a few heads-up bracket race, IE: 7.00 and 6.00, in the schedule this yr. and i think the payout on sat. nite will be $1200.00 for S/PRO.
Then Holly Springs will run as usual, with a $1200.00 payout, and usually there's 60 to 100 cars in S/Pro with 1 buyback. The only problem is that there's about 50 of them dragsters, and it's almost impossible for a door car to win. In my opinion Dragsters have an unfair advantage and there should be 2 seperate classes for S/Pro, like they are now doing out west.

not to step on anyones toes..but i rather attend a street night then a boring bracket race anyday..
i think brackets should all be changed to heads up index racing..this way you stillcan have the guys running on a lower budget that can still choose to run the slower class ( less money) ..but can still compete against the other guy on the tree ( heads up) WHICH IS REALLY THE HISTORY AND BACKBONE OF DRAGRACING..plus this will keep the 1987 ford escorts from putting the 4.90 rail on the trailer...saw too much of this CHIT..sorry..MAJOR TURN OFF (to me) AND A SLAP IN THE FACE TO TRUE DRAG RACING... A 5.99,6.99,7.99,8.99 INDEX CLASS...should cover most bracket guys..i guess you could go to a faster index for the 4.90 rails and such cars that choose to bracket race their stuff..
sorry but drag racing is not spelled bracket racing IMO...
i do not want to piss anyone off this is how i feel about brackets...i am an old school street racer..that could never see letting the other guy leave 1st....BUT i am all about patting the gas on them on the BIG END and not showing your cards if you have him covered at that point...( perfect index situation)...and exactley how all of this started off years ago.
don't get too wound tight for my opinions...it will obviously never happen 100%..OR WILL IT ?

BJ if you remember it used to be like that, 10.49 and lower, 10.50 to 11.99, and 12.00 to 13.99, then slower. That was in the 80's. I ran my 65 Chevelle in bracket 2 it ran 11.50's and was track champion in 85/86. I liked it that way and for the most part never ran against a rail.

If you ran up against a rail in your days..IT WAS THE GUARD RAIL...LOL..
You Zip are a Pioneer to the sport of drag racing..i do not mean to make you embarrassed or angry..but many people on here ( RJ) DO NOT KNOW who you are and what you have accomplished in this sport...i Know who you are and where you came from....What makes you a speacial breed from back in those days..is that you were one of the dinosaurs that was able to evlove and adapt to this so -called bracket racing error...that alone says a lot of your versatility knowing where you came from...
I DO NOT participate in any type of bracket racing..but i am lucky enough to attend a track that holds the 5.99/6.99/7.99 index racing along with their bracket program..
as far as the rails are concerned..i too see them being on another playing field..there is a reason for the old 10% set back rule in door cars..well the rear engine rail blows those rules out of the water to the 100th power..
there is a place for rails in the index heads up world....make it a 5.39 and a 4.99 index open to all cars...IMO a true 4.99 door car will handle a 4.99 rail car majority of the time anyway..( i got my reasons for this but i do not want to step on any toes here).
Outside of wanting to see the index racing take completly over..i would also like to see the old rule of CI per Body weight come back..i feel this was really a fair way for the BB vs SB competition..
its almost embarrasing to come to the track with your branch new 565ci motor..and the annoucer says over the pa.....and here is the Beetlejuice with his new Par small Big block motor....Geeeez,,,now a 632 is being considered a mid-size motor..LOL...
ci per body weight and lets see what your made of

ProRegal it sounds to me you are experiencing some of the NHRA rules and regulations that many of us hate,,( see the NHRA rules thread)...
hey whatever you like, weather its bracket racing, footracing, boat racing, slot car racing....hey go for it if it makes you happy..we all deserve this happiness from our sport we love.
i would like to leave one last thought for people to get a mental picture.

I go to paradise in calhoun, Ga. It's been family operated since 1961 and almost every weekend ya crank at 12 when church gets out, T/0 till 2:00, and then bracket starts and alot of the street cars join in the bracket racing. It's fun everybody their volunteers to work, 21 cars in foot brake 10 in pro, and about 30 T/o cars. Pretty much we make minimum 15 passes to 30.
