I am building a 502 gen VI for mud racing. I am using a '80 fullsize blazer. I plan on using dominator flange Team G with a 1050 dominator. It has JE pistons, forged crank and rods and plan on Brodix RaceRite rectangle port heads milled to 110cc. I expect around 10.5-11.0 to 1 compression. I am looking for some solid roller cam specs to reach 700-800hp. Hopefully, I am not out of line with my expectations. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

You should get a custom ground cam.The companies to check with would be Cam Motion,Erson, and Bullet.Where do you race at.

Can you use a different intake besides the Team G?

I can run any intake. I thought I would run the Team G because it has a broader RPM range than the others. Any suggestions?

I would use a victor or super victor intake and go in and clean up the rough casting and gasket match it.You need to research between these two intakes to see which one would be best for the 502.

here is a pump gas 502 made into a 509, that I built for a local guy. It was a gm perf. 502/502 core engine, and thats exactly what it turned out to be. So, we threw away every part, except the block, crank, and head cores, which are 2.25 intake valve edelbrock Perf. Rpm oval port heads that say GM performance parts. Not bad, $7500, 1 year, and throw everything away. But anyhow, with a fairly radical port job on those heads, and a 270-278 at .050 solid roller on pump gas, with a Victor 4500, and a 1050 carb, it made 735hp and 650 ft/lbs.
If you ran more compression, and the heads you have have more potential, it could make a lot of power. Where are you located, I am in St.paul,Mn, I noticed you said you run in Mn. If want any further details, let me know

I am located in Bismarck ND. My head choice might have changed to a little bigger head, Dart Pro 1 or Brodix BB2 plus. What is your preference? What are all the specs on that cam and also RPM range?

If your engine is going to be naturally aspirated and you run a heavy truck and you are buying as cast heads i would go with the Pro1 325.

I would use the Dart Platinumn Pro-1 325. Without a lot of work, they can flow 390+ on the intake. Over 400 isn't very hard either, with a 2.3 intake. And the port is still smallish, and 335cc, or a touch bigger. With those heads, on a 502, is this a 502, or is it going to be a 509? I have a 509 combo, with the above heads, and what i consider a mild cam, 13.5:1 compression, that makes 830hp. I did one 509 a few years back, as a revised combo of the above, that made almost 900hp. That one was a bit more high strung, and had a fairly serious cam. In a 2750lb 68 camaro drag car, it went 5.32 at almost 130 in the 1/8th, and 8.40 at 157mph in the 1/4, so the potential is there.

one of the first questions and perhaps most relivant is what is the rpm range of the operation?if looking for stout street/strip motor to rev at say 4000-7000 rpms id guess around 265-270 degrees @ .050 with the exhaust 5-10 degrees more.with total advertised duration to be about 300-308 intake and about 10 degrees more on exhaust.run as much lift as you wanna or can.latest trend in the pump gas build offs in the magazines lately is to go with mild duration figures with big big lift to produce most power on pump gas with peak hp at 6500 rpm.probably a nice 112 degree lobe sep. to bring peak torque in at about 4500-5000.with peak hp goal to be about 6500 rpms.....but im not a cam designer by any means so id call listed above companies or comp cams.comp is probably most popular cam choice of builders....probably a reason why....jmo good luck...by the way ive heard team g intakes are not a good choice for a single plane also.but id still say 700 hp or more @ 6500-7000 rpms shouldnt be hard to make if above recipe is refined to your exacts.
