Trans brake issues and ID

I have a trans brake that isn't working and I need some info.

I am not sure if the whole thing is a TCI its an old fairbanks trans.

I pulled the solenoid and when I put power to it it kicks fine but doesn't return the pre powered position. should it return on its own or does an internal spring do that in the trans.

If I push the plunger in the trans in it doesn't return either.
I am assunming that should return.

I wanted to check on whats behind that plunger before pulling it out so as not to drop and parts in the trans.
I am trying to get this thing working for the last day of the season.
Thats this saturday.

I had the same problem with a same style solenoid and i replaced with a diffrent type the one that doesn't have the piece outside moving.....not sure what u call it and had no problems with the new style....mine new one is a tcs from tcs in canada not sure there web sit

Some brakes use a spring to return the valve and some use fluid pressure. The valve should be hollow on the inside end if it uses a spring. There are some strange styles if it is an older brake. Several different designs to do the same thing.
