I'm considering using a de-stroked 400. From what I've been able research, these are good engines for low-low end torque and high rpm applications.
Would this be a good application for 1/2 mile Sandusky track? I plan on pulling power through 7500 rpm.
Anyone here used this type of engine?

Destroked to what cubic inch? I've run several 377's, which is basically a big bore 350. less torque than a 400, but more upper rpms.

Yes, 377, sorry. I hear that it's very good for not running out of HP in the straightaway

Also been looking at running comp's Late Model/Outlaw IMCA HXL/RX 4&7 Swap Roller cam. It's: http://www.circletrack.com/techarticles/ctrp_0702_comp_cams_tc_camshafts/index.html
Maybe the 285HXL R7?

Never done much with the roundy round stuff, but I've got a lot of parts from the locals. They seem to like 'em.
