to lock or not to lock

want to be informed, i want to purchase the converter that would
work the best.
Lock-up: what does this converter do
non-lock-up: what is the difference
thought i would ask my fellow gear heads rather than call the
converter company that makes me feel stupid

It depends on what transmission you have.If you have a lockup transmission you have to have a lockup converter.A lockup is for better fuel economy and not for any all out drag racing vehicle.

thanx lanham, im going to use it on a hughes th400 street/strip and
i wondered why the lockup was more than the non lockup

In a normal converter, non-lockup, it's always a fluid coupling. I.E. The driven vanes slinging fluid against the back and turning the trans. With a lock-up, at a given RPM and load a mechanical connection is made between the motor and trans, reducing loss and improving economy.

Or so they say. :wink:
