I'm using Distilled water in my aluminum block/headed engine. I was told if I can get some Deionized water this would be better. Is this true? To help aid against corrosion? And keep coolant system clean?

You need to check the coolant with litmus paper

That checks the acidity or PH of the coolant, you need to be in the 7.0 range, thats neutral

Local parts stores may be able to help you there.

I know caterpilar has a solution that you pour into the coolant system and also has the litmus paper to test coolant systems.
That additive also helps with corrosion and keeps the cooling system happy

I would say it is true as we have to use deionized water in some of the equipment where i work. I will say that after working there 4 years, the inside of the cooling units is almost as clean as the day it was installed. Other places i've worked that had not used the Deionized water have had to use a descaler and flush the system every 3 years or so. Hope this helps.
