The car was built by Applied Racing Technology in Clearwater, Florida. It is an all tube chrome moly chassis. The body is a fiberglass replica of a ’38 Chevy Roadster, only very Aerodynamic due to the dropped and slanted Pro Mod style front end. The car weighs in at under 2000 pounds with a 555 cu. In. motor, Hughes Pro-Glide, and Strange 40 sline axle-Fabricated 9” rear with 430 Pro Gearset and large pinion. The car has Strange Struts, Four link with wishbone and anti roll link making for straight and consistent .400 launches at any track. 17” wide rear Goodyear pro-stock tires put the power to the ground. Pete’s Dragin’ is one of the fastest Super Gas roadsters in the country and has gone 171.90 mph in 7.97 seconds on an all out pass. The car is now set up to run around 155 mph at the Super Gas index of 9.90 seconds using Dedenbear electronic timers and throttle stops to slow it down. This is so that it can “run the number” without breaking out. The Dragin’ is more than capable of and has competed in the Super Comp class 8.90 index which is mainly comprised of dragsters. The car also has competed in Pro Class Bracket races having an electronic display to show the “dial in”. The driver-owner Pete Kinney prefers Super Gas because it is the last of the true Hot Rods classes. The driver sits in a normal position on the left side and all of the cars look like they could be street driven. The Super Gas category has a wide variety of very unique cars, T-roadsters, Corvettes, 55-57 Chevy’s, Camaros, Henry J’s, Willy’s, 34-38 Chevy’s, Cobra’s, Pinto’s, Novas, etc.; just to name a few. There is even a Mercedes and a Ferrari racing in Super Gas. This very rare car is the only one of its type and year campaigning on the West Coast in Super Gas.
