Started fooling around with cars in High School. First car was '69 Charger R/T with a 440 automatic. Moved on to a '69 Hurst/Olds. Yeah, wish I still had them now...Got more serious in the early 70's and built a '71 Vega with a 350 LTI, Super T10 crash box and Dana 60 w/5.38 gears. Ran 10.80's when that was considered fast. Drifted away from modified cars for years. Always had something cool as a daily driver, but missed the fun of working and modifying something. Turned 50 and decided that it was now or never. Always wanted something with a blower, so I started with the 1969 blue Chevelle which was already tubbed when I got it. I put in a new 565 Merlin tall deck w/8-71, TH400 w/brake and braced 9" 4.29:1 pro gears. Its all steel (no fiberglass) street car will run 9.40's at 140 through the mufflers. It's a ladder bar car and it hooks hard...Look at the launches in my gallery. Liked that and picked up an old school drag 'vette. Red '65 Stingray. Needed clean up and updating, but generally kept the old school flavor. It attracts a crowd everywhere I take it. I put 10,000 miles on it last 3 years just cruising around. It's a Gen 5 454 w/6-71, Nash 5-speed and a Dana 60 w/4.10's. Its a pro set up 4-link set up. I took it to Union Grove for a nostalgia event and wasn't able to make a full run. On Street tires, starting in 2nd and smoking the Mickeys all the way thru 3rd ran 128 mph. I think its capable of low 10's with good tires. It is a real trip to drive! I do all my own work except engine machining and painting.
Well, now I'm 60. Chevelle is knocking on the 8 sec. Window. Having a blast, running with the Midwest Superstock Mafia here in Chicago. Switched from an 8-71 Roots to a 510 Whipple. More HP and more fun.
