An addict since 1968 when I saw my first race in the MD. area, The Cavelcade of Funny cars and what a deal it was back then. Finally got my own speedracer and never loked back after that. To date, my elky has gone 10:02 @ 135 mph with good cool air, more later as I am targeting 9's very soon. Thanks for looking. My wife & I got married at RT. 66 Raceway in Joliet, Ill in 2006 in my pits and that rocked!!!!! Anniversory will always be done racing, is that just the coolest or what? married at a drag strip, anniv. at a drag strip, supportive wife, who could ask for more. I love you Linda. Thanks for helping another person live there dream.
UPDATE**feb, 13TH 2010
As you can see from the new pics added, the backhalf is underway, and is about 60% done.
Decided to keep the 12 bolt and just modify it, I got new Moser Axles, and will run the 4:88 gearset. a 2ND battery is being added as well as a bigger fuel pump. Nitrous is in the works later on after we get the chassis sorted out.
We, my wife and I are shooting for the NMCA race in Joliet, Il at RT.66 Raceway for our first race in that series, we also have a new product to help keep racer's trailer's in the racer's posession, the new SPENCE TRAILER WHEEL LOCK, that's right racers, ask for a quote to help secure your trailer a little bit better than nothing. I will have one on display at every race I go to, just look for the 3 x 8ft banner in the pits. As the picture shows, it doesn't allow the tires to roll on the trailer if someone trys to steal it, and will draw too much attention if they even try to take it down the road. Send me a pm for more information, and good luck this year, all for now until more work is done to my Elky, oh, and a website is coming soon, hopefully.
John "The Elkyman"
Update** Sept. 2008, After ripping the frame apart on my last time out, I have decided to go with a 4 link rear suspension and a set of 16 x 33 Hoosier slicks to obtain better traction. Target et for 2009 is 9.50, can I make it? who knows, cross your fingers and let's pray it does.
UPDATE FINAL FOR 2008;
Well, it has been a trying year for the elky team in 2008 with numerous problems with many different areas as this is what happens when the faster et range is reached. Although the PINKS show was the highlight of the year, it could have been my race, but I changed some parts and in my opinion, it cost me the event win. But, I learned and I am moving on. With a tightened convertor, and then a rear gear change, the elky slowed down and had a BIG problem at the last points race in Norwalk,Ohio, I ripped the frame apart behind the pass rear tire area with my track bar mount, the weld held just fine, but ripped the frame like paper, so with the 116 inch wheel base I have, and wanting it to leave like a SS/AA 68 Hemi Cuda, I have given up with the rear 10.5 tire size and stock geometry, and am going BIG, 15 x 33 and I have almost sold everything except the complete axle assem. and the wheels/tires, and TRZ upper control arms to help buy the new backhalf kit. I am looking into the new STRANGE S 60 housing for more strength, and, some weight, and this should put me into the 1.30 60ft range. I am ordering A set of Afco front shocks, and will run them in the back also. I will do my best to keep updates coming and on getting my webspace started with hopefully a buildup of the backhalf job. Thanks for looking and all the comments from you racers and car people, we need to stay together and keep it alive. ElkyJohn
Update; Sept 2007, Elkyman hits the 9's at local Funny car event at Knoll Gas Motorsports Park in Kalamazoo, Mi. 9.95 off the trailer on Sat. Morning 58 degrees, buurrrrr, but, I'm in the 9's...
Update; ELKYMAN get's et license, runs completed at Norwalk Raceway Park on Sept 28 with a 9.98, 9.95 and a final run of 9.91, WooooHooooooo 9's baby!!!!!! finally
Update as of Oct. 14, 2007, I blew the transmission on the 1st test & tune pass at the NMCA finals this past month in Memphis and with the help of fellow racers, a new trans and convertor released more of my big blocks power and getting off before the 3/4 mark my Elky was on a 9.60 pass!!!! yeah, I'm diggin it bigtime and it went a 9.86 on that pass, so with good air my 505 has the power to reach the mid 9's, I am so happy, with some weight added it picks the front end right up and looks great on the launch and with some more weight, the 60 inch solid wheelie bars are next(smilin) Thanks again for looking at my ride, it is sweet.
Elkyman makes the final 4 on PINKS Norwalk, Oh. June 6/7th 2008 What a blast.....More later
