About Me -
Member for: 10 years, 7 months, 11 days
My name is Erick Meyers. I am Thirteen years old and I am a member of the NHRA Jr. Drag Racing League. My dad and I run a NHRA Jr Dragster. The Jr. Drag racing league was started in the early 90’s to get kids ages 8-16 involved in the world of competitive racing. The cars are powered by a single cylinder flathead engines ranging from a stock 5hp for beginner classes to 60hp methanol powered engines for the advanced drivers. They are raced over a 1/8th mile drag strip and are timed by a dial in time, if the driver goes faster than the dial in time they loose the race. Most tracks have three classes for Jr. Dragsters a 12.90 second class for beginners ages 8-9, a 8.90 second class for intermediate drivers ages 10-16, and a 7.90 second class for advanced drivers ages 13-16. My new car runs in the 7.90-8.00 in the 1/8mile. The classes are set up so that it isn’t the fastest car that wins but the most consistent driver and car.
This will be my second season racing at the High Desert Speedway in Gooding Idaho and also at Firebird Raceway near Boise Idaho. Racing starts in April and ends in October, the races bring many fans from all over the western states to watch. I have many great memories of my first year in Jr. Drag Racing. I won two first place trophies. The first was at the Magic ValleyEarly Iron car show, where my car took first place in Competition Other, and the second was a first place event trophy from High Desert Speedway on August 27, 2006. I prticipate in the Western Days Parade in Twin Falls Idaho on the first weekend in June. I showed off for the crowds of people all the way down Blue Lakes Blvd. with short burnouts. In August, I had a great opportunity to show off the race car at the largest car show in Idaho, The Joe Mamas Car Show, in Jerome Idaho. I was picked to kick off the exhibitions at noon with a burnout and run down Main Street in front of hundreds of on lookers. My first car which my dad and I built is also featured in the Napa Auto Parts Cool Rides calendar for the month of September 2007. I have been interviewed for my schools online newspaper and the school allowed me to put on a show for my classmates. Please take a few minutes and check out the website that my dad has made for our race team www.freewebs.com/efmracing we update it at least once a month so all our sponsors can keep up on how im doing.
There are no upcoming track events I will be attending.
