About Me -

My name is Ben. I'm 28 and I work for the city of Baton Rouge in the DPW Traffic Engineering division as an Assistant Signal Systems Operator. I was lucky enough to be chosen as the Week 19 winner for the RacingJunk.com Sponsorship Giveaway. So vote for me if you like what you see. My love for cars and racing started when my dad got his dirt super stock car back in 1988 and I was at the track almost every weekend. It continued into the 90's when we were on the Pit Crew for Halpin's racing team where we helped Elizabeth Halpin with her Rookie year on the SUPR Dirt Late Model Tour. When I went to college I had to take a break from racing for a few years while I went to school and worked as a Football Manager at Nicholls State. In 2000 or 2001 my dad and I were trying to figure out how and if we could afford to go dirt racing. We finally went to No problem raceway for the first time in 2001 and I almost instantly noticed that I wanted to go drag racing, not to mention it’s a lot cheaper than dirt racing. So in early 2004 dad and I found a 85' S10 blazer in the paper with a 305 v8. We bought it and were able to get all the drag race parts to make it ready for the track. My first drag race was at the Vette vs. Viper meet at No problem in 2004. I got to the quarter finals and lost on a red light, but I was hooked. In December 2005 while searching RacingJunk.com dad ran across what would become my current racecar, an 84 S10 blazer with full tube chassis setup for a big block. We drove up to Lansing Michigan on December 28, 2005 and purchased the blazer as a roller and drove it home. After Borrowing a 468 big block Chevy from my uncle and having the trans donated by a family friend and a lot of Racingjunk.com searching we had the new car ready for the 2006 NHRA Division 4 meet and the Cajun Sports nationals at No problem Raceway running in the Super Street class. We haven’t been to the track very much since those two meets. My uncle Gary was involved in a Major Auto Accident on the way home from work in May of 2006 and was diagnosed with cancer in November of 2007. My uncle Gary is the main person in our race team. He’s the engine builder, tuner, and all around crew chief. He has recovered from both ailments very well but we still don’t race as much as we use to. We are currently working on building a new 490 c.i. big block that was put on hold last November. We hope to have it done before the year is out to get some run time in before next season. Vote for me and help make next season and the seasons to come alot easer.
