NHRA decided to open its 2021 Camping World Drag Racing Series season in Gainesville, Fla. because the venue where it has traditionally started each racing year, Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, wasn’t able to host the drag racers that February.
NHRA’s Camping World Drag Racing Series is nearing its halfway point in a 22-race season for its Top Fuel and Funny Car nitro categories (both Pro Stock and pro Stock Motorcycle have 19 and 15 races respectively).
As NHRA’s Camping World Drag Racing Series, Lucas Oil Sportsman Series, FuelTech Pro Mod Drag Racing Series were racing at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio for the 15th time, its master planner, Bill Bader Sr., who took Norwalk Dragway and transformed the moribund track into a drag racing destination, died on race day, June 26.
Mike Salinas won for the first time at Summit Racing Equipment Motorsports Park, taking over the Top Fuel points lead on Sunday at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals with his fourth victory of the 2022 season.
