The fact that Mopar made a few factory parts packages available for amateur drag racers is old news for Charger and Challenger owners. This is especially true of those Charger and Challenger owners who like to enter themselves and their cars in the local NHRA Sportsman class amateur races on the weekends. Well, Mopar has done it again, this time in even more detail.

Mopar Has Always Been Popular in NHRA Amateur Class Racing

Weekend NHRA-sponsored grudge matches are where the Mopar brand got its name and popularity. Slogans like “Mopar or no car” and “It’s got a Hemi!” were first heard on the track strip. Because of their low end torque, Mopar engines were favorites for amateur racers for years. Back in the Sixties and Seventies you could go up against guys with much bigger engines if you had a Mopar and win. This started to change a bit in the late Seventies and into the Eighties. Well, Mopar is back, baby!

Company Introduces Initiatives Aimed Directly at Grassroots Racers

FCA US LLC recently announced that they will begin to more actively support amateur racers in the NHRA’s Sportsman classes when the NHRA’s 2017 season begins. To start, they will have people on track at every major event to help support grassroots racers. They will also give factory support to a few select Mopar and Dodge NHRA Sportsman teams. There will also be an increased outreach and communication program for Sportsman competitors.

Additionally, they are introducing the “Magnetti Marelli Offered by Mopar Drag Pak Rewards” program. This program will provide monetary awards to dedicated amateur racers who use the Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak.  Even better, Mopar engineers will attend each of the 24 events on the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series to provide technical assistance and guidance to each and every Mopar powered NHRA Sportsman class racer in need of it.

Bill Harry, Head of Marketing for Mopar, said, “Amateur Sportsman racers fuel our brand’s involvement in NHRA competition. In 2017 we’re backing up those words with the new initiatives that prove our commitment to our most dedicated and passionate brand ambassadors. We’re also very excited to work more closely with the Dodge brand in providing select factory-backed support for Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak drivers. This enhanced commitment, combined without championship-winning relationship with Don Schumacher Racing in Funny Car and Top Fuel, demonstrates that we are focused on NHRA involvement that makes the most sense for the Mopar brand.”

The “Magnetti Marelli Offered by Mopar Drag Pak Rewards” Program

Using a special points system, the “Magnetti Marelli Offered by Mopar Drag Pak Rewards” Program will give the top 20 drivers using the Mopar Dodge Challenger Drag Pak cash rewards. Drivers will receive points for everything from entries to victories and runner-up finishes. There will also be rewards for wins in Factory Stock Showdown NHRA National races as well as Stock Eliminator or a Super Stock World Championship title if it’s claimed by a Mopar Dodge Challenger.
