ULMA racing action resumed last weekend with two familiar faces returning once again to victory lane, each for their second time of the season. Last year’s Rookie of the Year, Dustin Hodges, and last year’s overall Lucas Cattle Company Champion, Jon Melloway, each took home wins over the weekend. Hodges clinched his second victory of the season at Callaway Raceway on Friday night while Jon Melloway grabbed his first-ever win at Lucas Oil Speedway on Saturday.

The action kicked off on Friday night at Callaway Raceway with ten drivers in the lineup. The main event was a showdown of weekend winners as Hodges and Melloway squared off before Hodges sped off to secure his fourth-career ULMA win. Melloway settled for second with Jefferson City’s Chris Cox continuing his consistency by securing the third position.

The top ten was rounded out by Cody Holtkamp, Ryan Petersheim, Phil Edmondson, Chuck Melloway, Ashlee Lancaster, Dave Miller, and Cliff Powell. Friday night racing will be back in action for drivers based in the Central and North-Central portion of ULMA’s reach at Callaway Raceway.

Drivers from the central and northern region also have the option to race Saturday night, as Randolph County Raceway resumes racing this weekend. This Saturday’s action will be the first since early May for ULMA drivers when Chris Smyser drove to the win. Smyser is expected to be a crows favorite this weekend at Randolph County Raceway.

Last Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway, the field was big with 23 competitors for three heat races and the 20-lap main event. The three preliminary heat races were won by Jon Binning, Jon Melloway, and last year’s track champion, Justin Russell. Jon Melloway effectively ended Aaron Marrant’s four-race winning streak in the ULMA Late Model division.

Kenny Mudd advanced from sixth on the grid to finish in the third spot while Binning and Russell rounded out the field’s top five. Lane Elhert advanced from 15th to 6th at the checkers as Bobby Penney, Ethan Young, Phil Edmondson, and Chris Cox completed the top ten. Lucas Oil Speedway will be hosting an open-wheel spring car special this weekend, so ULMA drivers will have the opportunity to venture out to either Randolph County Raceway or Central Missouri Speedway. ULMA racing will return to Lucas Oil Speedway on June 25th.
