I just met R. Lee Ermey at a motel he was staying at in downtown Phoenix. I was outside eying a USMC themed Jeep and he came out. I said, “He, aren’t you Lee Ermey” ? He replied, “Yes I am”.
I almost didn’t recognize him with the ball cap and 5 days of beard stubble, but overall he looked and sounded pretty “chipper”. I asked him why he hadn’t been on TV for a while and he told me he has a new show called “The Gunny” coming in a few months.
I didn’t bother him with a photo or autograph request as I’m not into that, and we chatted for several minutes and then I bid him farewell; he was very friendly and I didn’t get any impression that he wasn’t open and accommodating at all – a nice man.
