Sad news for land speed racing fans: Speedweek 2014 has been cancelled due to rain. The Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) board has determined that the standing water will not dry quick enough to allow for all the required qualifying and top speed runs.
The SCTA board is currently discussing the possibility of extending the World Finals on September 30th into a full week of racing as a make-up Speed Week.
Our thoughts go out to the teams that made the trek to Bonneville only to turn back around and go home. We wish them the best as they attempt to break records through the rest of this year and make another appearance at Speed Week 2015.
The next land speed race will be held at El Mirage Dry Lake on September 14, 2014. Hopefully we’ll see some of the teams from Bonneville out at El Mirage.
