69 Firebird Test Drive before purchase
Traveled a few hours to look at a street strip car well prepared with funds in hand .Car is licensed and insured. After looking the car over good I ask to go for a ride. Owner drives a very short distance with the car just dying one minute into a 3 minute ride. It does restart but appears to be struggling to stay running. After returning back to his residence . I tell him I'd like to purchase the car but would like to drive it. He refuses to allow to drive while he rides along . Is this the norm? I've sold several older muscle cars and Pro Streets and always let the prospective buyer drive my vehicles. I guess I have another question to ask sellers before I drive to look at a car . I just can't help but think there is something wrong with the car driveability wise that's being hidden.

When I buy or trade I ask the owner to meet me half way, and not on a trailer.
That way you can almost be assured the car is road worthy. After meeting up
test drive the car to see if he truly did drive it or hid a trailer down the
road. If they refuse, forget it and move on. Worked for me most every time.

Depends on how fast the vehicle is, seller has noway to know buyers skill level or able to handle the vehicle. If or when i sell a race car i would not let any unknown person run it, I would take them and the car to the track and run it as many times as they want to demo the vehicle.

If the person shows me the cash and agrees to let me hold it as an "insurance policy" then they can drive it all they want
Sounds like the seller was trying to hide something...
