REAL Floor Shifter for FMX
This is for all you Ford fans who want a floor shifter for an FMX and, like me, couldn't see paying for an aftermarket "SPECIAL" shifter made especially for the FMX. I used a 79 Z28 shifter, using my old floor shifter cable, mounted it right where my old B&M was mounted for my C4, and it shifts perfectly thru all gears, locks into Park perfectly, and the Z28 factory shifters have a special feature where you can push the shifter slightly to the right while upshifting 1-2, and 2-3, and don't worry about it mis-shifting. It works kinda like a ratchet shifter. Mine is in my 67 Fairlane, and works fine. The FMX is a STRONG transmission, you can get them dirt cheap because they weigh about 50 pounds more than a C4, but if you are driving on the street, it doesn't matter. I really like my FMX. So, if ONE person can use this little tidbit of info, I've accomplished my mission. Oh, and in case you're wondering, the GM shifter does NOT have Chevy or a Bowtie on the knob!! Have fun and keep 'em rolling!!
