Default Swine flu...

Hey Everyone,

I have been away for about a week here & trying to balance my work & kids who have the Swine Flu (6 & 7yrs). I am writing this post b/c our media is making this Swine Flu thing really an exaggeration. It is tough, but not like pneumonia. It is everywhere here... out of 280 kids in my kids school, 72 were out sick! If you or your kids suspect the Swine Flu, treat like a regular flu. They can't give a vaccination after you have had the swine flu for a couple days... but it is just a different kind of flu virus is all. People can die from this, but they can also die from the regular flu in the same way... main thing is making sure your child does not escalate to pneumonia... like other viruses. My kids will both be fine & we learned that our media is just making this out to be more than it is. People over 50 may be immune; they had a similar flu back in the day that may cause them to be tolerable. Kids: same risk as flu... common sense treatment. just FYI, if you have any questions, PM me. Scooter

Hey Scooter,

I agree, I just got over the case with both my kids (17 & 13) going through this stuff. They gave us Tamaflu for ten days. The main thing is keeping them hydrated. I do think the media is making out to be worse than what it is but it is still tuff to see your children sick. Glad to hear your kids will be ok as well.

thanks rigs, good info, yea the flu if not treated can kill children and
the old, i had to take my grd kids to the hospital, 3 & 6, and they were
diagnosed with a viral infection, and both have asthma, so any
kind of flu attacks the lungs worse with asthma, but we caught it
right at the beginning and they are doing great, thank god, glad
to here your babies are doing good as well, oh and my grd kids
liked grandpas chicken soup

Thanks Chris/signs... glad your kids are well too!!

Signs, I remember the doctor we brought our kids to saying that children w/ asthma or lung issues are at higher risk... glad you treated them in time! Serious stuff there.

Chris, they told us about the Tamaflu too, but it was too late & I am not sure it helps Swine Flu. You did the right thing by addressing it early to get the medication!!

As always, prayers help too... sure seemed to help us. Scooter

Yeah, my youngest one Mariah has asthma so they watched her pretty close through the ordeal. I know we did a lot of praying as well.

My new crew chief works at the VA Hospital and is seeing a lot of SEVERE cases. She did want to know if your kids had all been swabbed/tested and confirmed in having the H1N1 flu. Being actually TESTED is the ONLY way to CONFIRM H1N1.

Double/D: Nice to have a crew chief that can be educated about taking care of the old man... sounds like a good deal to me!! LOL!!

About the testing, only one my son was tested, but we brought them both in. the Doctor did do a swab, but she said my daughter probably had the same thing & was concerned with checking pneumonia & the systems surrounding that. Being it really was too late, the doc said their immune systems were doing a good job fighting it themselves.

Hey DD, they tested my daughter because of her weight 13yrs/old and 75lbs and having asthma, they did not test my oldest daughter though.

DD, they just told me that they both had a viral infection, which is
bad, and contagious, and caught in the early stages which both
have asthma problems but have recovered nicely,
and JUST HEARD OF THE GUNNING OF OUR SOLDIERS HERE
