Evaporating Race Gas
I am currently running a 502 with just under 10to1 comp. The vehicle is a full size blazer set up for side by side mud drags. The VP rep suggested going with their new oxygenated race gas. I am having problems with this gas evaporating as it goes into the intake. I made my first pass on Sunday and at the end of the track I let off the gas and it stuttered and quit. I first thought I lost an ignition box or coil or spark related when it wouldn't fire back up. I checked all that and everything is fine. I could pump the dominator over and over and the gas would evaporate before it reached the cylinder. The plugs were dry. I let it cool for a couple hours and it fired right up. Did I get a bad batch of gas or is this gas not designed for my application or is something else? Thanks for any and all help.

Tell me more about your 502. Are you running Q16? If so you don't have near enough compression for it. To run Q or oxygenated fuel you have to richen it by at least 5% or your gonna be WAY LEAN. I run Q16 and LOVE IT!! I went up 5 jet sizes and I was already running over 1600cfm's. The Q fuel isn't gowing to evaporate any quicker it just has more oxygen content which makes it burn faster therefore needs to be richer.
Also tell me about the end of the run. Bumpy, rough track? If so, were you off the throttle when you went over the bumps / bouncing. What I'm getting at is it's easy to bounce around alot and flood a dominator and that's what it sounds like to me by the limited info you gave us.

I would check and make sure you're getting fuel into the intake and make sure you're getting plenty of fire. If it is it will start. ( if compression is not low of course)

Sunoco Standard 110 octane or at the most Sunoco Supreme 112 octane and run from the oxygenated fuels unless you want to be very carefull with handling and fuel system care. The key element in "oxygenated fuels" is about 20 percent ethanol.
