If this is a street car I'd be using a TH400. TH350 is too weak.
If its a tall deck block with high rise manifold you're going to have some probs with the hood. In my 69 Camaro I had probs with the rocker cover hitting the brake booster. Chopped a piece out of the rocker and it was all good.
Highly recommend an electric water pump. CSR's are good.
Could be probs with the distributor and firewall too.

i am looking to keep the whole engine under the hood if possible....but thanks for the heads up on the water pump. Is there anything i can do to reduce the chance of the frame twisting?

the headers can be a problem???, what kind of problems am i looking at just the fact that they wont fit from stock parts???

you can make plates to weld to the frame to help it from twisting.( there was a show on hotrod tv on how to do it),but a roll cage attach to the frame would be best.

the X frame is just not strong.

HEY PAUL,the first thing I did to my el camino when I put the 572 in it ,was relace all the springs and shocks.Ireplaced the rear lower control arms with a pair of boxed arms.I changed my stock 12bolt posi unit to an eaton posi.Lastly,I replaced the stock th400 with a heavy tci tranny.Believe when you change over to a 572,you will be amazed with the torque the engine puts out.Goodluck with the changeover!FISHMANJOE

I'd go with Powerglide 1st, - T400 2nd.

T/S, TCI, BTE, ABUZI RACING, all make some excellent units for around 1K .
