Default Ignition timing - Gasoline vs Methanol

Is there a different ignition timing requirement for methanol as compared to gasoline (for drag racing)? If so, do these differences change according to engine size, i.e. 350 versus 598 CID?

Thanks

Timing does change for bigger ci stuff, my gas carb actually runs at less timing them my alky. But when I ran small blocks the alky was 7-8 degrees less on alky.

I'm running 35 now but was thinking about running 38,39 degrees. Mines just a 535 though.

I've yet to try and lower mine any, I was happy on the dyno so I didnt mess with it. Ran it there last year also. You may try going a few and see what it does.

I remember my 468 a few years back @ 39 degrees ran 8.40's, I decided to go 33 with it ran 8.20's. Slapped a different intake on it and moved it to 32 and it ran 8.0's, not to shabby for $1500 short block, in a 2010lb car

Hehe that's funny David,

Think about it, 10's of thousands of dollars spent on motors, a new chassis 100 lbs lighter, and a gain of 1/2 second over the cheapo 468. The reason i think this is funny, is the cheapo 468 i built for the 3700lb Biscyne, stock steel crank, 804 rods, and a set of $425.00 probe 10.2 comp. ratio on pump gas, actual cost was less than $1,000.00 short blk. it's running 10.50's @ 126mph on DOT Hooser street slicks, no one believes it's a 468, there's been estimates from 502 to 540", but we just grin and go on with it

Zip.
