Default 850 apd on sbc

is a 850 apd alcohol carb. too big for a 396 sbc

230 runner steel heads, victor jr. intake, 12.5/1 comp., have to find cam cam card but a solid flat tappet around .550 or so. anything else?

Is it a drag only,street, street/strip what does it weigh, gear ratio,trans,conv stall and rpm range.

drag only, 2400 pounds, 4.88 gear, 1/8 mile, p/g, 5000 stall, mostly footbreak, runs 6.30 now on gas, just want to try alcohol maybe a little faster and consistint for double entering.

It shouldnt be too big for ya. I run a rupert dominator that flows almost 1200 cfm on my 409 small block. Alky is usually good for .15 to .20 or so on a mid 6 second car.

i think your in the ball park..I had a 511ci and APD built me a custom Alcohol carb and it was an 1150cfm

the only thing i see that would concern me is your compression. Alcohol responds well to compression i think you would see more gains on the gas to alochol switch if you were 14 to 15:1 compression..

850 should work fine, I assume its used and not from apd if your asking. My question would be does it have the same air bleeds/jets it did when done by apd ? Call apd and ask for Joe or Randy and see if they can tell you what its suppose to have. Remember to back timing off some.

comparing a rupert to a apd is like comparing coal to gold isnt it :lol: :lol: :wink: :P
