Default How much hp on a stock glide?

I am putting my truck back together and it is a Footbraker. I have ran stock glides in my old Firebird with a mild 350 running 12.2's with no problem.

The motor in the truck is about 475 horse. The truck weighs 2650 pounds with me in it. I am guessing it should run 10.70's or 10.80's. I had a 1.76 glide with a brake in there when it was put together before, but I really dont have the cash to build a new tranny. I have a couple 1.82 glides that I ran in the firebird that work good.

I am just wondering how much power you guys have gotten away with in front of a stock glide.

Thanks for your input...

My Malibu weighed 2800 and my 383 made 592 hp. 2 years later no problems. Its at my trans guys now getting freshened and a Reid case cause im putting it in a dragster and didnt want the shields. It had 1.76 gears, hardened input turbo spline ,BTE clutchs and deep pan and thats it.

That sounds good, but the tranny I was thinking of using is a stock unit. Bone Stock. I wanted to send it to my tranny guy for a freshening and throwing a brake in for the manual valve body, but its not in the budget.

I spent all my money getting my dragster done, but then I got into the pinks deal at Indy so I am trying to get my ol truck back together on the cheap. The Reid case is the only way to go on a dragster so you dont have the shields, I wish thats what my shorty glide was.

Id think it would hold up,mine didnt have any trick parts in it and without a brake your not going to hit as hard as with a brake.

Actually, I was really just fishing to see how much abuse someone else has put a stock tranny through.

I could get a Webb built new 1.76 glide with a pro tree brake, deep pan and shield for 800, but I dont have the cash for it.

I have a couple 1.82 glides that I ran in my old Firebird, they worked good behind about 350 horse. I was thinking about throwing one in my truck since they are free.

Thanks for the input though guys.

It is not so much the stock you will run into a problem with, it will be the 1.82 set. Like I said, if you just want to buy the gear set and need something swapped out, call.

My friend Jimmy Smith did run a PG with 1.82's in his sons Camero weighing about 2900 lbs with a brake, and a 383" it ran high 10's and high 6's . it lived for about 1 season before blowing the planateries. I'm thinking about 550 hp and mostly 1/8 mile passes. Foot braking would definately be easier on the trans because it doesn't have the shock of the brake. I'm thinking it should stay together for Pinks atleast.

Thanks Zip that is about what I was thinking. I am just planning to make a couple test passes before pinks and then run it til it pukes...lol... I have never had any luck with the 1.82 when a transbrake was involved, but foot braking with my mild 360 and light truck should be fine for a little bit.

Thanks again, I will let y'all know how it works out...
