    opinions please

new to site, great info: ok guys i am lending a friend my spare engine for this race season. he lost a rod in his engine in sept, bucks down!!!! my spare is a 357 chevy, capable of 7000 rpm balanced assembly 12-1 comp, dart iron eagle 215s 2.05 1.60 valves, holley strip dominator,750 dp holley,1.6 harland sharps and moroso girdle. the car 2500 lb malibu drag car ,full cage,4 link, glide with a 4500 stall(on t brake),dana 60 5:38s 29"tires now the issue, the cam ....it will be a solid flat cam, i used to run an isky 201549 in previous years, which was a great cam at the time 258/263@.050 547/555lift 106 c/l other cams we are looking at are comp12-611-5 255/266,540/534 lift with 1.6s.or howards112321 260/268 555/562 lift 108 c/l . the engine was a roundy round that came with an elgin e1090, that may work. i am out of touch with flat cam technology ops: and feel we may leave some hp on the table . the springs we will use are 135 lbs on the seat, and 300 on the nose ........ your opinions please, thanks

FYI This is about the last place that I would ask what cam to run in any combination. You should be giving this info to a cam manufacturer. We have opinions but do not grind cams. Comp is a good choice as recomended, but the specs need to be provided by a grinder of cams not what billy bob did on his engine. You have a lot of info on your combo to give a cam manufacturer that sells them every day. You make your own luck. The better the info you are working with the better the luck. Thank you for using Racing Junk for your question and GOOD LUCK!

I think that since you are only loaning this engine & unless your friend is intending to build a duplicate of what you are lending him,why would you invest any cash into tempory cams when you can use what you already have? Yes,you will not have optimised the engines HP,but, there are many places in a car where you tune,& that can keep you busy while you build the engine that will finally go in it(even a little sooner with the savings made by using mostly suitable parts that you already have).Good luck.
