front shocks
I have been beating this around in my mind and of course the more you think of it the more you can confuse yourself.
My little pinto has 90-10 front drag shocks and when it lifts the wheels off the ground it looks funny as the a-arms are totally extend down. So the question is should i leave it that way or should i go to a diffrent shock like a 70-30 or a 50-50...it hooks hard right now i have had to drop the ladder bras to 2 postion and tightened up the shocks to about 7 clicks stiff...the car is 55 percent front wieght and 45 percent real.....i guess i need some advice on which way to go and what it will do to the body.......thanks in advance....check my photbucket pic out and see what i mean

You might try some adjustable front suspension travel limiters. I would start with about 1 1/2 inchs of travel. The Pinto suspension travel was limited by the factory shocks. It could be those shocks have more extension then the factory ones. Changing the rate on the shocks (90/10 70/30 50/50) won't limit the front end travel.

Gearhead is righton on his suggestion. That front end travel is allowing you to yank your front end up. By putting in limiters your front end wont come up as high either.

Do you by any chance know how much travel i should have in my shocks as i can check them and replace the shocks........i have been looking at going to coil overs in the front and replacing the top and bottom a arms with after market ones..........thanks

I have a camaro with a BBC that is backhalfed. It is 54% front and 46% rear with alot of torque 540cid. I finally sprung for a set of afco 3840 BNC shocks. They are double adjustable but the rebound side has very strong valving and it will control the car in a wheels up launch when it comes back down like you couldnt believe! You can control the up movement and the down like it was a different car completely. They are pricey but what a difference it made not upsetting the car when it hit the limiters so hard. I would suggest that you get a regular length coilover and make it fit your car. Travel in a shock never hurts, if it is to short.....then you can damage it if you arent right on with your first settings, I did that and had to send a 800 dollar pair of coil overs to be repaired after a few passes.
