Default Cam size for 468

Looking for a cam size for a 468 . BBC , 990 gm heads (ported Joe Gentile) , 2950lbs ( with driver) , 4:11 gears , turbo 400 , 4 link rear , 13:1 comp , alcohol with rons toilet . Does anybody have any suggestions or remarks considering set up .

I am also looking at upgrading to aluminum heads but would like to purchase a set that will flow for a 555 - 598 . Will any performance be lost or gained by putting such a big head on a small motor .

Thanks ,

Mark

Call Curtis @ RFD for the heads, as far as a cam, how fast are you trying to go? Mid 270's @ .050 on a 110 LSA roller will put you mid to low 9's. You should get the heads before making a cam decision.

The big heads always have worked on a smaller motor for me, dart 355's on a 468 @ 2000lbs 680/720 lift cam, gm crank, eagle rods. shifted at 6400-6500 ran 5.00/8.00 all day

I would like to get into the high 9 s at 4000' da . Currently I am running 10.25@ 129.5 mph with a not so good tune (egts are 1090 - 1140 ) . My 60' is 1.45 . Does anyone think this is possible with the cast heads .

Thanks ,

yep, i do. you did not give any info on your current cam, the numbers laid out by hammertime sound,s good to me for that combo, 990s are a fairly good stock head, and being ported is a bonus for sure. you are close now, getting your 60' time better, would help a lot also.

comp cams 284/294 .725 lift on 110 worked very well for us.5500 converter required.sorry do not remember exh lift.made over 700 on 13:1 468 with a holley tunnel ram and twin 750 80186 doms.shifted 7800.
this was in 1992. ops:
there are better profiles out there now (comp RX series)...but this served quite well.

low maintenance.ran on street every friday (30 MILES EASY)

What are your head flow numbers, intake and exhaust numbers ?
Did they RE CC the intake runner after they finished the port job?

I have a 468 in a 3600 lbs 66 Chevelle. I picked a 268-272 .697-.731 earson camshaft. Car leaves really well"1.36 60 ft on the back tires and runs 6.16-6.18 all day. I have a set of out of the box Edelbrock rpm performer square port heads, 13.3 comp, 400 turbo 5800 converter.....
