advice on driveshaft
I recently tubbed my car.Everything is squared away except my driveshaft.I have yokes on both ends(trans and rearend)that are 1350s.The driveshaft I have been running is out of a 74 Nove w/250 6cyl.Not sure what the ujoints are on the driveshaft, they measure 3 1/4' wide and have 1 1/16" diameter caps.Been running crossover ujoints(at least that's what I call 'em).Real question is,my pipe is only 2 1/2" in diameter.Do I need to step it up?Like I said,I just tubbed it,but am not making any extra power as of yet.Had no problems before.Money is tight and was wondering how much power it would safely handle.Estimated my power to be 600hp,don't really know.Car is about 3300 lbs with me in it and have run a best of 6.90 at 99 mph in the 1/8.Any help very much appreciated.

if you are gonna run it on the street i would not worry about what you have...its not going to hook good enough on the street the compromise the shaft...if you take it to the strip with slicks etc...you need to upgrade your shaft..i would say minimum of .083 wall 3 inch tube..
again as long as your not dead hooking,,you will have not much to worry about.. IMO.
if you have a chassis cert guy near you he can sonic check the wall thickness and tell you.

SORRY..LOl..its just a figure of speech..remember i am an old east coast southern boy..
all it means is to hook hard off the line,(slicks,VHT)..."No Wheel Spin"...when this happens as you may know its transferring all the energy to the ring gear.axles, drive shaft u-joints,yoke etc...
when you hook that thing "dead hook"...you can take it to the bank its gonna find the weak spot in your drive line..
it normally raises its ugly head somewhere between the axles and drive shaft,u-joint.. 1st...
Nothing to take lightly..
