Default need to find best suited cam for 572 street-strip bbc

im looking to find dyno'd engine combos with near 572 cu.in with near 10.2:1 compression-if you guys have, please list parts including exact cam manufacturer and specs to find best cam to give most torque and horsepower in the 3800-7000 range.thanks in advance russ-oh by the way 572 will be seeing 250 shot of nitrous also

Be ready for a dozen different answers. How about more info? Vehicle weight, converter stall, gear ratio, primarily street or strip, cylinder heads, intake, exhaust size. There is NEVER an exact cam for a given engine size. You will want a wide LSA and a wider split patern for nitrous.

i ran my chevelle this past labor day-ran [email protected] at 90 degrees heat.my current cam is comp 7/4 swap .748 lift 286/296 at .050 112 degree lobe ctr.dart 355 1150 three circuit dominator dart intake jesel belt.the scales said car and me is 2950 lbs.2 1/4primaries to 4"collector. 9" 4400 rated stahl-turbo 400.4.11 rear gear 33"tall m/t et street.car doesnt flash much at all past 2000 rpm(i atribute to cam and vehicle weight combo)my rpm at 142 is 6000 so with the right cam profile and on spray i want to have car peak rpm to be approx. 7000.currently, car is very doggy under 5000 rpm.(5000-8500 rating)
it seams like newest trend to get best results in pump gas motors is high lift cams and short duration=most power at 6500.so basically i want to get cam correct for 3800-7000 with peak horsepower to be around 6500 rpm cause i heard you want to have peak horsepower 500 rpm less than highest rpm motor will spin.i want to footbrake the car to about 3000 rpm then stomp on it to activate nitrous(cheap mans transbrake).i am very anxious to hear what you guys think.im thinking of leaving current cam specs alone but take out duration.............what would you do???thx!

I was running close to the same thing as you last year, same weight, trany, gear, compression, but smaller cam,264/[email protected] lift.108 lobe sep. it brought up my dynamic comp, which you maybe a little low on...this year bigger cam, close to yours, but new pistons around 11-1 , (8-1 dynamic) still be able to run pump gas, ran 9.50s last year, looking for low 9s this year with a glide, never dyno`d, but if you want more torque,I think you`ll need more compression, and lower duration, (to work together to get a 8-1 dynamic) just my thoughts, nothing to back it up, just my experience, with mine. I want to keep mine under 7000, stay on pump gas, and no NOS.and still drive on the street, I think thats where you are going?except for the NOS

thx for posting!!!according to my mph im guessing cam is capable of lower 9's(if converter was looser)but like i was getting at i wanted power band to be lower(i told motor builder 4000-7000)so if i was to go to a lower duration(was thinking between 260-270 intake and 270-280 exhaust )will it make more power(torque) which will equal faster times???ultimately nitrous will be the 8 second ticket so that will be part of the equation also.comp said they can grind off up to 20 degrees so 266/276 @ .050 sounds good but seems still a little much for 3800-7000 band i'm looking to get with the .748 lift.look forward to reply thx again!!!!!!oh by the way the cam has 321-336 TOTAL duration.

That cam is a bit large for even 572 inches, at 10.5:1, with those heads, and converter, etc. But, the cams you have in mid are to small. 142, is enough to run mid 9's. You need a looser converter for one. You could take that cam back to say 280-289 or so at .050, and tighten the lobe sep up a bit, 110, that would help tq. As much lift as you dare to run also. But, this sounds like a street car, so, I wouldn;t get to carried away. I think there is a ton left in that thing. 9.90, at 142, at 2950lbs, with a 572, is leaving A LOT on the table.

been hearing wider lobe equals better for nitrous.hey superstreeter-if your combo was similar how would you rate your cams power band(from what to what in rpm?)any other discriptions on behavior would be apprecieated also!my springs are set up for the cam that is in it currently(.748 lift)so i want to keep the lift near that but still uncertain the duration i should chose-comp cams told me 274/284 but i feel that with the amount of lift being a .748 i should be more conservative on the duration seeing as i dont wanna rev over 7000.anxiously waiting-russ

Well I`m not up to speed on the NOS - cam thing, don`t know what a good cam is for NOS..from what I hear, the wider the L.S., the broader the power band especially for large cube engines, all the builders are using 110-112, I used a 108 first time around and it seemed OK.so I`m shooting for some better #s second time round,,with a 112 and bigger 357 cnc heads and 11 - 1 comp. this time. you have a cam with more duration, which from what I hear will give you a higher power band, which is going to be higher than what you want to use, I maybe wrong though, because the larger the cubes the more cam you can run,,,so, I`m not totally sure what mine is going to do, I guess I`ll have to wait till we strap it to the Dyno and see, but won`t be till after Xmas..I wish I knew exactly which cam would be better, but, I guess no one knows, till you dyno test. because of all the different variables..sorry I`m not being much help,, but thats why I through this Comp. thing on to start with..I do think I`m going in the right direction, with my new combination, I guess we`ll see, in January. Later...
