Default will it go faster or slower?

took the car out for the first time last week and was impressed with the new engine set up. 1/8 mile it it ran 5.51 @126 at 7000 rpm. engine is 565 bbc that dynoed 1011 peak at 7200 thru 7400. max torque 795 at about 6200. car weighs 2910 with driver and has glide with 1.80 first. the rear i have now is a 4.88 with a 33" tire. i feel that when i quarter the car it might run high in the rpms. i have a new 3rd member that is 4.56 and wondering if that gear will slow the 1/8 time down or will it improve? the converter locks at aprx 6000 rpm and 2nd gear shift point is 7000.

Go to Pages 2 and 3 of my site and insert the weight, gearing, shift speed, etc. into the spreadsheets. Play with the rear wheel horsepower number until you get your eighth mile speed. (The ET will probably not match very well, but don't worry about that. It's difficult to closely calculate ET.) Then, you can change rear gear and see what happens in the quarter.

Default faster vs slower

I have had a very similiar setup in the past, but went from a 4.88 gear to a 4.10 and my 60' and 1/8th both got better, I guess it was spinning the tires off of the line anyways goodluck

did'nt seam to change much. it went a 5.54 and back to back 5.53's at 125mph. the air was up apr. five hundred feet from the first time out. the best the first time out was 5.51 and a couple of 5.52's. i'll have to wait till the 17-18th of nov for the psca to run the quarter.

If you ran the same on the 1/8th, why change it? It won't run slower on the 1/4.

in the 1/8th it appeared to have went from 7000 to 6900. i just got back fromcalifornia speedway psca yesterday and got in two practices. went 8.68 at 156 and 8.68 at 156 right at 7500rpm. now maybe you gus can help a little and try to figure converter slip? glide with 180 first 4.56 rear and 33" tire. the 1/8 time was 5.55 at 125. also with the new motor set up it is torqueing to the right off the line. it looks like a upper right four bar can be preloaded a little to help correct this. what do i do for the pre load, shorten the bar or lengthen it a half flat. it is in a neautral spot now. thanks fot the help
