    For you big time engine builders

    I currently run a conventional 23 degree headed small block with standard spaced exhaust ports and standard spaced valvetrain. What would be my best bet in improving my heads. I've heard of Pro heads, will the performance gain be worth it using my current valvetrain?headers? I have 18 degree pistons (flattops) in my engine now. Would a 18 degree setup be better? If I went 18 degree could I keep my current headers? Just throwing this out there, trying to decide how to spend my winter cash. :lol: Any advice is welcome.

    18 deg would be better but you would run into a problem with the headers,the flange is on a different angle and the ports are slightly wider. you could cut the flange off and replace it with an 18 deg flange without investing a lot of money.Bill

    18* heads will be a big step up from the 23* heads, ..
    and if you have the pistons, .. why not do it.

    But there's more then just the cost of the heads, .. you will also need
    a shaft rocker system, .. make new push rods, .. new manifold.

    Tell us more about your engine, car and how you plan to use it, ..

    The vehicle in question is in my avatar. I've got a 4inch stroke Eagle crank, 6 inch Manley steel rods, JE pistons, etc. Basically, I need to decide if I can upgrade the existing combo, or if I'd be better off going to a completely new set up. I have 6 passes on this one. I want a consistent, reliable combo that I don't have to spray so much to run well. I'm currently running Track 1's and think I'm pretty much getting all they have. Since I already had the 23 degree stuff, I was trying to see what I could do to optimize it. If the 18 degree upgrade will cost me some coin, I might look into some SB2 stuff. What I could get for what I have now, plus the cost of upgrading my current combo compared to a new set up is what i'm looking at.

    If you are looking to set the world on fire then go with the sb2 but if not go with the 18 degree stuff you will see a good gain over the 23 brodix heads you have now. Like Curtis said there will be more then just headers to do so with the 18* but there is even more cost going sb2.

    At this level a good 18º isn't going to be much short of
    take off sb.2's if you use a well built 18º

    SB2 or 18º , .. it ain't gonna be cheap, .. ..
    but I can cut you some deals on hand finishing work on my 18º stuff
    and I'll custom tune the CnC program to your application,
    free basic manifold port if you buy a head & manifold package, etc.

    Yep, .. I love dragsters, .. almost as much as pro stock, ..
    I had a C/ED many years ago, .. was slow, .. but I had fun.

    Since I got the shop & CnC machine i haven't been able to
    afford a car, .. but some day.

    There's one on RJ I've been looking at, .. but they don't want to trade cylinder
    head work for it. :cry:
