If you need Iron you'll need the largest head they make, 345cc.

even at that the port cross sectional area and airspeed will limit the power
you can make, airspeed will be high.

what's the application?

John858, ask your engine builder if he's tried the RFD 24*, he might be surprised.

well iam wanting it to pull vac. 15 at 1200 and all so make god # i know it all not in the heads but if i can find the right cam to go with a hoged out set of head i might be happy. i would like to have about 75o-800 hp i might be wishing too big.

john858 06-22-2008 02:33 PM

i will i'll see him this week hopefully, just dropped off carb, vac, fuel pump, etc. to get my 565 dynoed & i can't wait. where can you get the RFD 24* at ?

cboggs 06-22-2008 03:05 PM

You should be able to pull the vacuum based on cam more then anything,
port size in the head is a sepperate issue, . what are you using this for?
street car, drag car, 1800 lbs or 3800 lbs??????
The stroke on a 598 makes a big demand on the cylinder head, .

why Iron ??? class rules ???

john,

the RFD 24* - http://raceflowdevelopment.com/RFD-h...ock-victor.htm

Just made 1098 hp with a single cast intake on a 565 @ 7800 rpm, ..
6.9's in a dragster, . .
1050 hp on a mild 582 with an un-ported cast intake, ran 7.0's @ 188
in a 4 link dragster, will go 6.9's with tuning

"pro" version with copper seats & titanium valves flows 490 cfm
and is looking to make 1200 hp on a 522" for NMCA, ..

How light was that 4 link car :D 980hp here 1985 and no where near 7.0's lol  due you take trade ins :)

jl4020 06-22-2008 06:26 PM

it going in a 4x4 mud truck 3700pound iron head its the rules . hope to a 14-1 super victer jr and havent decide on carb? any thaout will help on any of the build. so it sound like dart345 will be the better head?

cboggs 06-22-2008 09:23 PM

David,

You know wayne Horton, his 4 link car, 1880 lbs went 7.0's @ 188
with a cast single 4, 2.4" valve version of the RFD 24* head on a
598" aluminum block, made 1020 on a land & sea dyno. Terminator injection on alky.
We are porting the intake and taking some of the conservative out
of the car set up so it should be able to run a 6, but maybe not in
the heat. It IS a bracket car, ..

The 1098 hp engine is in a 2000lb tank, um I mean dragster, ..
should run this coming week end but don't expect much in the heat.
The 1098 number comes from a depac dyno, fairly conservative.

Trade ins, .. well not really, but you know I've offered to help you
out before, .. I can make your 385's do that.

OK back on subject here, .. Iron heads on a mudder, I assume you
are allowed to port them?
Typical mud builds are engines that see a bunch of rpm, have fully
ported heads & intakes etc. I'd start with the Dart 345 head and have them
ported, you'll need at least 430 cfm..
you'll need a super victor with some porting or you could try a Merlin X intake.
You'll need to contact Patrick at Pro-systems carbs and get one of
his 1600 cfm monsters, .. good custom roller cam.

You should be able to make 1000+ hp.

hope this helps.
