Tips On 496 BBC Build
Looking to build a 496 pump gas street motor and would like to make 600-700HP on the motor. I plan on spraying a 100-200HP shot of NOS. Any good builds that I can lean too?? As in heads, cam, rotating assemblies. I planned on going with eagle forged. I need suggestions on everything. Just want feedback to pick my best option. Thanks

Check out Comp Star rods by Callies. ARP L-19 bolts standard. 6.385" length. Clears bottom end of block with almost no hand grinding too.
Also Manley 4340 4.250" cranks. Machined in USA and comes with everything documented on sizes on quality control check sheet. Better machining than Eagle. SRP pistons for BBC are the good 2618 alloy. Camshaft is the make or break item in a street compression 496. Have one special built for all your combination, especially head flow. |
Dunno why you need juice to get a 496 to put out 600 hp.
We ran a tired Iron 496 with Dart 355's, 14.7:1, .790+ lift Comp cam, Pro systems SV-1 induction, PG in a 2800# Camaro and ran 9.70s and never leaned on it . . At 4900 feet MSL, 7800 ft, corrected. 116 octane Sunoco. No Brag, just fact. Went to a Shafirof 582, same heads, compression, a little bigger cam, same gas, ran 9.20's . . This year, we added Alky to the mix, and we're expecting 8.80's . . Still no juice . . They tend to last longer without it . . |
I want to make 600-700 ON MOTOR and I will spray 100-200 on top of that to get around the 900hp range but will be a daily driver. Im not spraying it to make 600hp come on

Are going to use a GM block or aftermarket?

there is a buddy of mine on here mrchevynovaman talk to him hes got a 496 that makes 650+hp and sprays it with like a 200-250 shot in his mud truck fastest one around here
i belive its an eagle rotating assembly (forged crank and h beam rods i think) probe pistons 7xx lift custom ground cam pro comp heads |
With a GM block a 496 is a good start for a street build. As for the rotating assembly I would use the eagle rods but I personally wouldn't use the eagle crank. The quality control isn't there anymore. I sent back two of them and went with a Callies Compstar. It's a little more money but what is your engine worth?
