Ok I got to ask

This is going to sound like a dumb question I have 671 blower 12% underdriven 38 tooth on the top. I have asked a lot of pople why some blowers have that whining sound and mine dose not, you could here it but some cars you could here from two blocks away. I have a 350 sbc roller motor I even put noisy gear drive in and still can't get that nasty sound. What do you think.
Thank you

My guess would be the drive gears in the front of the blower. Maybe they are stock GM gears or something else, but I believe that's where that sound comes from. My .02. 8) JB

you are right..it is from the air trap between the belt and pulley;;that is what a blower shop told me anyway;they said the tighter you run belt then the louder the wine.just remember that belt gets tighter as it gets hotter so want to make sure you don't tighten belt to tight when cold or belt will be breaken when warmed up from being to tight after warmed.
please don't take my word completely on this subject am just passing information i was told by a blower shop

That is where the whine sound comes from. Most of the street cars with a blower, have a 1/2 pitch belt. The teeth on the belt are flat. When the teeth mesh with the pulley, the air is smashed and there is your whine.

An 8mm pulley and belt are of a rounded shape, and are not nearly as loud.

That is 100% correct. I have a 57' Chevy with a 6/71(1/2" pitch pulleys) on my 427BBC and the tighter I tighten the belt the louder the whine! Thats music to my ears :D

X2, you can't even hear my s/blk 1471 buzzard catcher blower, even at overdrive with the 8 mm drive, here's a vid, it's just a little oil leak in the covers from adjusting the valves, easy fix.I'm behind the camera and that's my motor in the ugly Dodge.

Zip.
