Why Would There Be Water in my oil??
Well I have a sbc 350 engine in my Camaro.
We took it to the track for the 1st time since the motor has been rebuilt. The 1st 3 passes the engine ran great, the water temp on that run being 210 degrees. But after that we noticed a rocker that was Wayyy too lose on the #8 cylinder and resolved the problem. On the 4th run at about 5k rpms i heard a "puff" come the passenger side of the car and tried to restart it with no luck. While waiting on someone to retrieve me and the car i checked th oil and noticed water and bits of metal in the oil, along with water and oil comming out of the same side header. Reminder: This is a new motor could the metal be from the new rings setting?? Please give me so possibilities of what could be wrong. |
Blown head gasket is most likely. Filled the cylinder with water causing the no start...Metal in the oil is not good...

intake leak, head gasket, rocker studs leaking, oil cooler problem,or just a cracked block. I would ck studs first to see if one has backed out!. you said you had adj.prob.ck it out let us know

Probably a head gasket
It is normal to have a bit of a silvery glitter look to the oil on a new engine but chunks of metal or copper/brass colored flakes in oil = bad Cut the filter apart and check for bearing material. |
210 is kinda warm, sure you didn'y have any cooling issues?
I'm in agreement with all above though, its a blown headgasket. Whenever you have water/oil coming out the header - its a dead give away. Like Tod74 mentioned it's normal to have really fine slivery flakes in the oil sometimes after the rebuild / break in process. Tear that thing down and keep us updated. Goodluck, Cp |
most def head gasket that would be my first check
|
back off valves and do cyl. leak down .may be abel to pinpoint some problems before tear down.
|
yep and dont leave us hangin im curious
|
I'd say you dropped a valve and knocked a hole in piston. Did you put one piece stainless valves in when you rebuilt it? I hope its something minor, but years of experience tells me different. Good Luck

WATER IN OIL
DONT RUN IT ANYMORE,,,,I WOULD TEAR THE ENGINE DOWN AND INSPECT, I AM SURE YOU WILL HAFT TO HAVE A MACHINE SHOP TURN THE CRANK AND BUY SOME NEW BEARINGS PROBLY 175.00 FOR THAT, THEN THE HEADS WILL NEED TO BE MAGNAFLUXED AND PROBLY MILLED MAYBE 100.00 + NEW HEAD GASKETS. CHECK FOR CRACKS ON THE SHORTBLOCK AND CYLINDERS, PUT IT BACK TOGETHER, NOTHING TO IT.. 210* DEGREES IN MY OPINION IS TO HOT... WORK ON YOUR COOLING SYSTEM... ALSO IF ANY BEARINGS ARE SPUN THE ROD WILL NEED TO BE MACHINED TOO. GOOD LUCK..
