406 cylinder sleeve
i have a 406 i was getting ready to assemble when i noticed a small sand pocket or hole in #3 cylinder. it will be where the rings are. i am building this for 1/8"mile and it has 13.7 comp,solid roller and internal rotating assý. if i have a sleeve put in is it going to hurt my block, it's the only block i have for this assý. i just dont want any issues. CAN'T AFFORD A DART BLOCK ANY ADVICE IF THIS IS ACCEPTACLE THANKS JUST DON'T WANT TO RUIN ALL THESE NEW PIECES BY CHANCING IT OR NOT REPAIRING IT PROPERLY. NEED SOME HELP!! THANKS

Yes, you can sleeve a 400 block. I'd reccomend filling it with hard block up to the bottom of the water pump holes before doing so. It is 1/8 mile drags correct?
I've personally run 400 blocks w/sleeves and hardblocked with no problems whatsoever..... |

I'd have ask how far up in the cylinder is the small sand pocket and how big is it, also do you have a way of pressure testing that cylinder to see if the hole is thru the cylinder. I've got a 2 bolt 377" and a 4 bolt 406" motor but i'm with Carl on this one without even reading the links he provided, i would NEVER sleeve a 400 blk, too many issues with head gaskets leaking and bolts pulling out.
If the pocket in down in the blk. and it's not thru i'd run it as is if it's narrower/smaller than the ring width. JMO Zip. |
thanks 4 all the advice. my machine shop looked at it and said it was a rust pit not a sand pocket and they wouldn't present a problem but they are going to pressure test it for me just to ease my mind.NO SLEEVE SO WHEN I GET IT BACK WE WILL FINALLY PUT IT TOGETHER THANKS AGAIN

there's a lot of circle track racers out there that most likely have sleeves in 400 blocks. we used to run wissota mods and used to sleeve the blocks as long as bore only got hurt when the occasional BOOM! happened. this is alot cheaper than buying a new block. these and alot of other classes and santioning bodys have claimer rules. so you don't want to put thousands of dollars in a engine that can be claimed for a lot less than it costs to build them.
