1983 Corvette

This seemed like a fun discussion so I decided to start a new thread. I was talking to a guy today and he told me that the 1983 Corvette had a severe braking defect and GM made the people who bought one return it(for a refund) or they would not issue a title for them. He also said there is one in Jacksonville Florida stored out behind some Chevrolet dealership he worked for a few years ago. They decided to keep it instead of returning it. It was the newer '84 body, not like the '82's. That make two of 47 built. Anyone got more information?

It's my understanding that there was only 1 1983 Corvette made and it is in Bowling Green, KY.

this was a post tod74 made about the 83 vette

I googled it after it was mentioned in this thread....I never knew they DIDN'T have 83 Corvettes.

1983 Corvette

Officially, There were no 1983 Corvettes. There were forty seven 1983 Corvettes made but none were ever sold. The National Corvette Museum has the only 1983 known at this time. The new Corvette plant in Bowling Green, KY closed in October of 1982 to begin retooling for the 1984 Corvette. Production began in January of 1983 and the press received their first view of the 1984 Corvette in January of 1983. In February, the first production 1984 Corvettes were sold to the public. In March of 1983, the 1984 Corvette officially went on sale in the United States, except for California and a month later, in April, the 1984 Corvette went on sale in California. By October of 1983, the plant was in full speed production.

The museum in Bowling Green Ky. is pretty cool. I recommend visiting it if you ever get in the area. It's real close to Beech Bend Raceway.

The 83 Vette was probably like the 84' I drove once...

It was not very fast for starters.

I mis-judged the nose & ran over a curb w/ the ft spoiler because it was so long.

It was as long as a full-size station wagon, but held two people.

It had like 8 U-Joints I think total...

It was an 80's marvel of plastic, fiberglass, & a under powered SBC... all of which was not very impressive after 8 to 10 years. It was like laying down while you drive...

Final Impression: 1 st years of a new Corvette in 53, 63, or 83... I will always default to the new 63 spilt window if I could afford it. Scooter
