tunnel ram

who has the better tunnel ram for SBC edelbrock or weiand? would dual 750 mighty demons be to much on a 406 run between 4000-7600 with 11:1? already have one don't feel like buying two new carbs

chevguy65 07-04-2007 05:49 AM

Yes, I do think the 750's would be too much for a 406.

Your post makes no sense to me.

You ask which of two brands is the better manifold to use as a tunnel ram and you say you already have one, but don't feel like buying two carbs?

Huh! Which ever brand it will need two carbs on it to work right. Don't even think of using one carb on a factory cast tunnel ram.

For most purposes you will be better off with a single 4 barrel single plane intake. Even the ebay Team G or Victor Jr, would be better in most cases than a tunnel ram with one carb on it.

Tell us what you have and what the principle and secondary use of the engine is?

In certain applications tunnel rams with big dominators is better at hbigh rpm and with high hp.

There is no such thing for sure as which is best. Maybe the one you have is best becuase you already have it.

If this is a street or bracket engine, (Low compression I see you are asking about) maybe a single 750 could be enough carb for you. WE have no idea what you have or are using it for.

Ed, I think he already owns one 750 Demon that way he would only need to buy one more.

edvancedengines 07-04-2007 07:12 PM

Ahh So'
Hmm' Maybe he needs to not buy one more and to maybe run his one on a good single plane. 750 DEmons are good carbs once tweeked in for the needs.

Depends on which 750 DEmon he has if it will work right on a tunnel ram. He will need a high rpm engine with more compression big cam etc for even a good matched pair of tunnel ram 750's to work good though.

By me looking at the compression he is talking about my voice says no, don't do it.

Do either your 750 Demon on a Good Inatke and enjoy it and the response and power you can make with it, after it is correctly tuned in, or buy a paior of matched 450 cfm carbs to put on a tunnel ram and enjoy the looks and the performance with those.

well i had someone tell me every time they switched from single plane to tunnel ram they always run faster weather it be 2 or 3 tenths. it looks like the weiand is the better intake i already have one 750 mighty demon i don't have a tunnel ram.

mcracecars 07-05-2007 05:07 AM

2 750s on a t-ram on a 400sbc will be very soggy driving around. These intakes are designed for hi rpm, lots of gear, hi stall converter/4-speed light weight cars.
UNless you want this set up for looks and not go... then ok, but a good single carb and intake is a lot easier to live with.
The 2-3 10ths may be possible depending on your setup, you will probably get a little better mph, but it will kill your 60's,
In my opinion, you could better spend the money elsewere to get the same or better et increase.
IF you still want to do the t-ram, a pair of smaller carbs in the 600cfm range would be easir to live wtih...

If your determined to get a tunnel ram, I know a guy on this site that has a used wieand and two 600 holleys for sale.

You could always sell your demon.

750's will be way over carbed for your combo.

I do agree the single plane vic jr may be the way to go and use your 750.

PM me if you really want to go tunnel ram and I will get you to the person that is selling his.

Timmyboy,

There is much more to just putting a tunnel ram on a motor. At your C/R and not knowing anything about heads, cam, Ing. so on. You may have to much carb already? Please tell us what this motor is all about. What trans, and rear gear are you running, and the cars primary use?

Yes, you should be able to pick up 2 or 3 tenths by doing some minor modification and tuning on your Hot Rod. You will kill that motor putting that much air and fuel into it!

Most people do not understand what volumetric efficiency is. In other words the air and fuel you put into a motor is used to it's max potential. Via the proper carb or carbs, heads, cam, C/R, and Ing.

Ed, and MC gave you some good advice run with it! So post your info. on this motor. So someone can give you some advice on what to change to make it run better.

For what it is worth;
I have gotten over 600 hp with single 4 barrel 780 vacuum carb on a BB 454 type streetable engine. I have gotten close to 600 hp on a single 4 barrel single plane Tem G and Vic Jr with the 750 Demon Mechanical secondary carbs with 385 cu in and also with 406 cu in engines.

What you already own has potential.
