Won't start

Are you at least getting a backfire? Pull #1 sparkplug , bring it up on the compression stroke. Align the timing mark, and pull the distributor cap. Make the terminal it's pointing to #1 and wire the rest. The distributor rotates clockwise. The firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2. It should close enough to start. Then set the timing with a light.

X2... start w/ TDC & #1. Then follow the path of re-time. Is this a new motor? What happend prior to not running? Is it being dropped in for the first time?

Duplicate thread same author

gwgracing posted this question as (who has the answer) as a duplicate in the help thread not engine like here. I used fla1976 input from this thread to answer that one. Just wanted rigsby and fla1976 to know.

Any body remember the good old days of 6volt coils and points ?!?! 4:1 compression and they'd STILL fire.....

Scooterz 03-11-2009 11:05 AM

Double/D: Even though I am fairly young, I do remember my dad saying back in those days they would put a 8 volt batt in a 6V system. I had a 49' Ford I did that to one time. I do not miss POINTS however. Once I got HEI, I never looked back.

after setting those blue streak points with FEELER gauges for so long i thought we were Hi tech when i got my hands on a dwell Meter..i thought that was space age....

then there came a time shortly after to where you weren't cool unless you had one of those show box size YELLOW super coils and dual point distributers..which no one knew how to set up..but we had one and we were cool....

Then NOS hit the market in early 80's..did that change the game...lol

some kid;"Hey man, is that nos your runnin'?"

me; "uhh....no, it's my onboard fire suppression system"

some kid; "oh, I thought it was nos ,I got nos on my car"

me; " uh huh, right...."
