Car History: This is a true 50 style Hot Rod originally built by my father in 1954.
The 31 Chevrolet 5 window coupe was found in the weed behind an old garage. A 1949 ford which had a good motor but body was damaged was purchased and the transformation began.
The 31 Chevy 5 window coupe body was channeled to fit down low over the 49 Ford frame. Since the 49 Ford wheel base was shorter. The front fenders of the 31 Chevy had to be shortened and mounted back farther. The running boards were mounted down 2 inches lower than the frame to give a lower cool look. The back of the car had to be boxed and extended to cover the parallel leaf spring from the 49 Ford frame. Rear fenders were handmade to fit. The firewall was moved back 10 inches to clear the 49 flathead ford. The hood was welded into one piece with a custom lowdown hood scoop and the motor could be seen from the handmade side cutout louvers. The 49 Ford dash was cut down to fit the 31 Chevy. Custom built Red/Gold/White tuck and roll seat was made. She was fine.
I can remember riding in the back rumble seat as a kid. We would cruise a little and stop and eat at the local Steak n Shake on a regular basis were everyone would cruise through to see the Hot Rod.

. Dad would race anyone you would look his way and almost always won in his little red Hot Rod coupe.
Over the years the Hot Rodz Flathead ford was replaced by a 289 Ford, and later a 301 Ford from a 67 Mustang. I spent many a night tinkering with the Hot Rod with dad. Later, getting to drive her myself. And later buying my own 37 Ford pickup.

I got the 31 Chevy from Dad when he past. The old 31 Chevy had seen better days and had been sitting for a few years. I went straight to work getting her back in prime condition. Completely going through and painting the frame and suspension, but keeping her the same as dad would have. I had the 302 Ford rebuilt with Shorty headers and Custom made 3” Stainless side pipes. I added a battery box under the rumble seat floor out of sight. I made the custom interior. I refinished/painted the 49 Ford dash. Fitted the rumble seat with a newer rear seat. I installed front leather bomber look seat for the front. I handmade the custom floor shift cover over a new pro shifter. And I added the first CD/Radio the 31 Chevy sound has had. Added flames to the exterior body. Handmade the custom flame brass firewall and fan shroud cover over a new electric fan to keep her cool. I found bumper guards from an old Chevy for a front bumper look over the frame horns and added the center bumper guard between the frame extension body in the rear. I installed a front grill shel and painted the rims Hot Rod red and covered them with Full Moon disk. Installed rear flame 3rd brake light and added her first seat belts. And the story goes on today with my son , to be continued…… Thanks Dad
