Totally diggin' the RaceSpace!

I will admit, I have been somewhat of a slacker lately but I have an excuse. Lots and lots of painkillers…I am finally feeling a bit better with my back. (For those who don’t know, I had spinal surgery December 10th.) It has been a long road back to say the least!

But I was checking my messages on RacingJunk.com today and I want to share a couple with you. I will have to paraphrase herr as I clean out my message box today.

1. You are my favorite on PINKS. You are the reason I watch the show and thanks for making it fun.

See, that is so cool, nobody EVER notices the fat guy in the booth anymore. I try to bring energy and excitement to the entire show at it is just nice to be recognized! Thanks man, you made my month!

2. I accidently deleted your friend request because you took awhile to respond. I am sorry. I was going to send you a message but I didn’t figure you had time to talk to a guy like me…

This one hit close to home. First, see above as to why I have been a bit of a slacker. And you know what is cool about this whole thing? I am just a guy like you… Granted, I am a HUGE star, the papparazzi chase me daily, Donald Trump calls ME up for real estate advice, Paris and Brittany text me ALL THE TIME and I get the best tables in trendy restaurants by just dropping my name…(only 2 things in that entire sentance are true, see if you can guess which ones… answer to come…)

I am just a guy who loves what he does. I caught a lucky break in that an old college buddy came up with this cool car show and it is a hit. The entire PINKS cast is very down to earth. We are all just car guys who get to play every now and again. The best part of this whole thing IS getting to meet and chat with “a guy like you.” I get yelled at during autographs signings because I always hold up the line because I take a bunch of time talking to everyone. I figure if someone wants my signature and is will to stand and wait to shake my hand, I am going to shake their hand and find out about who they are. Never will I or any of us even take this for granted even one day or let any of this affect us.

Now, where did I put my caviar and Grey Poupon…

ps. the answer to the quiz about is HUGE (huge is correct because I am a whole lot of round. Large and in charge I like to call it…and where I live in Iowa, Applebee’s is the trendiest thing we got and I can always get the best table by just telling them that Gavin Jerome is here..that is, unless they are full at the moment…

Sneak peek of the first show!

I have a video guy that is second to none! He does an awesome job putting together these Gabbin’ with Gavin shows. Today I got a sneak peek at the rough cut and I was very happy with it. Why is that so amazing? Simply because, I AM NEVER HAPPY WITH ANYTHING!

I am my own worst critic. So of you racers out there know what I am talking about. To others, your race or your pass may have been excellent but you yourself know that it could have been better. If you are like me, you nit pick every little thing. It is part of what makes a champion so great. Obsessive attention to detail.

It can also drive a person to the brink of madness. Because I am in a business where perfection is simply not attainable. Now, if I was a professional bowller, it is simple to measure perfection. A 300 game is as good as anyone can do.

I don’t bowl. I am in show business. So this is a new reality for me. A huge epiphany if you will. Instead of focusing on all the things I could have done better, I am going to happy with what I did. I am not going to tear apart every performance. Yes, I could lose some weight, yes my hair was all over the place, yes, I stumbled on a word here and there and rambled a bit.

But I will let those things go and focus on the big picture for a change. Was the show better than a sharp stick in the eye? Yeah, I think it was…I could always be better, but for a first pass, it wasn’t too bad. I will be happy with that. And THAT my friends is a huge breakthrough for me. My show won’t be perfect but it will be REAL, it will be the best that I could do that day and I won’t obsess over it. Hopefully you will like what you see!

Just taped my first two episodes!

What a day today is! Wednesday, March 26th. Mark that down on your calendars folks. That is the day that Gabbin’ with Gavin is born! We (and by we I mean me and my video guy Chris) taped our first 2 episodes of this ground breaking webisode running exclusively at RacingJunk.com.

Every other week, we(and by we I mean RacingJunk.com and I) will debut a new episode one the pages of RacingJunk.com.

What is Gabbin’ with Gavin you ask? Good question. Gabbin’ with Gavin is a bi-monthly web TV show that allows you the RacingJunk.com member to have a voice, ask questions, vent your frustrations about anything having to do with racing.

It is a no holds barred, free for all open forum where I answer, or attempt to answer your questions. Simply drop me an email at askgavin@racingjunk.com.

We will sift through and pick the best of the best and they will get asked on the show! You will get credit and your name will be immortalized on the pages of RacingJunk.com.

Gabbin' with Gavin is now LIVE!

Greetings race enthusiasts!

My new blog, Gabbin’ with Gavin is now operational and I will keep cranking out fun and interesting posts so keep checking back on a regular basis.

Also on this blog, updates on my travels, hot pictures of events and all things racing.

But don’t forget the hotties! (Like anyone ever forgets the hotties…) My other web TV show on Racing Junk.com is called Know It Hauls and it is a fun, tongue in cheek look at the motorsports industry. Part of Know It Hauls are the hotties, beautiful gals who love the show and all things racing.

There will be all sorts of cool pages, photos, widgets, contests, products and more on the pages of this blog. Make sure you sign up for the feed if you are an RSS person. (I will admit that stuff hurts my head a little. I will have a post explaining all that in a couple days or so.)
