The Make Over

View Entire Blog

I will be keeping the car now and not selling it. My friends told me that I would miss it the day it went down the driveway for good. So they talked me into it. And then I talked myself into a bigger motor and trans up grade and a lot of other changes. Funny how that happens on a slow winter day missing the sounds and smells of the track. Well everything seems to be coming together. I have a parts list and buying a new trailer for the car. I have talked with two guys who I truly trust and lean on a lot. Sat we will go over everything and I will make a call to Jegs and start the parts coming in. We will be making a 454 to a 496. Trans brake and re-build along with rear gear and brakes all the way around. No time line for when it will be done, but I know it will be right when it is. I am really looking forward to this spring and summer of racing and having fun. I want to give big thanks to Richard Sloan, Randy Hoskins and Bryan Browning for putting up with all the calls and the support over the years. It really means a lot to have great friends around you. See you on the next up date and have a safe 2009!

The reason your friends want you to keep it is so they can have a ride in that fine machine without having to buy one. Tom

I think its great that you have friends that are involved and interested in your cars. I fully agree that keeping that car is the right move. It is a beautiful piece and would be tough to replace. Best of luck in 2009 and look forward to your updates.

Well the many parts have come in and making room for a few things on back order. Top End kit was picked up today and the bottom end kit was at the house when I got home from work yesterday. The motor is down to the block right now. I hope the drop the old 400 trans and pull the block out this weekend. My 14 year old son has been a big help with the car and that time is priceless. Right now the price tag is at or around $10k. That's cooling system, brake kits and alot of the small things that add up. I am going to take my time with it and not rush it so that it will be right. I am looking to make the first pass sometime in June. Everyone have a safe 2009!

Well the block should be done on 5/8/09 and we are another step closer. I plan on putting the front brake kits on this weekend and some small things like new coil and trans brake shifter handle on.
