KCIR-a classic and nice track to race
|View Entire Blog|
We have visited KCIR drag strip this fall in Kanas City,Mo- just 1 hr 15 minute pull from our homes. The traction was the best, the track very smooth and ran professionally. We entered the SUNOCO fall races.
Josh and the monza ran the best of 10.11 @132 mph, but not without mishaps. His distributor was coming apart, putting metal shavings in the oil, by the time he realized this it was too late. The engine let go at 7,000 rpm. The engine is now trashed; saved the heads, intake and a few lifters.
I ran 10.42 in the camaro, pulling the wheels up and getting 1.45 60' ft times.Still running the 1/8 mile gears she topped out at 122mph @ 8,000 rpm. I decided Josh had a better chance of winning $ and let him use my engine back in the monza. The next race was windy with a side wind of 10- 15 mph. Josh was chasing down a car when the wind caught up under his fender, lifted the hood just enough it was ripped off by the the 125 mph air coming at him.
Several other cars had issues that day, we helped Lee Short load up his Nova after tossing a driveshaft, loop and yoke at the finish line.Another racer blew a transmission, another an engine.
We decided our luck was not going well, it was time to put them up for the winter.-dslowride
